Importing resource data into P3E V5 from Excel

Dear Friends,
All of you might have experienced the difficult task of adding numourous resources and their details into the Resource manager of Primavera. This is an extensive process and usually done through manual entry.
Most of us will get resource data of our organizations from the ERP system , in Excel format (.xls) , or in text format,which is convertable to spreadsheet.
Can anyone write a detail help / procedure of importing such data into Primavera 5 , so that the manual entry can be avoided & implementation can be done smoothly.
