Question What is my Job Title?

Hi all, I'm new to this group and I was hoping for some opinions. I'd like to pinpoint what my actual job title should be. At the moment it's Project Manager, but I think I can define it more accurately. I think it might be Information Technology (IT) Project Manager or Technical Project Manager, but what do you think?

I was a Web Developer for eight years and I reached a senior level. Then I started working as a Project Manager and I have done that for another seven years. I have only worked on Web-based projects, and I've acted as a subject matter expert (SME) on all of them. I have done some work as a developer for some projects, as well, but it has mostly been PM work.

It's my understanding that an IT PM works on projects where systems are being implemented, whereas a Technical PM is also an SME. I think that makes me a Technical PM but I'm not sure.

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Most industry accepted term for your profile and role is Technical project manager. In my opinion, sometimes when a job offer is for IT project manager, it could actually be describing technical project manager. So, I would say they are interchangeable. A clear demarcation with a related role is Infrastructure project manger. is a good site to explore and understand industry standards for roles.

Depending on what methodology you use, you could be labeled as a Agile Project Manager. If you use SCRUM techniques that is....

Such as Kanban boards, wire framing, daily synch ups etc.
