Default EPM System Implementation Readiness Assessment

Hi all! The IT/IS unit that I serve in (60 members including FTE, internal consultants and interns) supports the largest deparment in Missouri State Government (> 12.5K personnel). My unit will begin the subject assessment in a couple of weeks with the contracted help of a Microsoft Gold Partner. Our aim is to implement Microsoft's enterprise project management (EPM) solution. I have all server side software licenses required, a sufficient quantity of client side and Web assess licenses, and have familarized with all of Microsoft's guides (more than a dozen) related to the solution. What I lack is experience in an EPM implementation readiness assessment. Any experience based pointers about approaching the assessment from the client organization side would be appreciated.

Also, this is my first post so I would like to add that I am grateful for the work that went into creating this online community.

I work in Missouri as a full-time IT/IS project management specialist, and I serve on the Missouri IT Advisory Board's PM Standing Committee. I also serve as a founding volunteer board officer in the PMI Mid Missouri Chapter, which currently has 92 members. Missouri State Government itself has about 250 state certified Missouri Project Managers (MPM), some of whom are also PMI certified Project Management Professionals (PMP). I have been a project manager for six years, certified as an MPM in May 2000, and certified as a new PMP in June. This is a GREAT career field based on its opportunities and challenges. I evangelize on PMI's project management "springboard" methodology, and I enjoy helping others develop and use project management systems (PMS) comprising MS Project, MS Excel (which I consider indespensible in a PMS), and other tools.

I look forward to sharing and learning in the PMKB.com community.

Hi Frank, welcome to the PMKB!

I was hoping some other members might chime in as I don't have experience with EPM readiness assessments. Hopefully some members may have contacted you privately?

Harry, IIRC, don't you have experience implementing/managing a large Microsoft Project installation? Did you participate in any EPM readiness assessments?

Thanks for the earlier reply. At this point my post is O.B.E. (overcome by events). I have two responses from contractors that are chock-full of the info I need, and I found plenty of other pre-prep material on the Web. PS: thanks, too, pmkb, for info regarding earning PDUs for discussions on this website. I'll share with other PMPs.

Oh good. I'm glad you got what you needed. Perhaps when you have the time, you can distill your own experience into an answer to your original post for the benefit of others?
