Project management software is a lifesaver... provided you use the right one. I have my project management certification and was formally taught microsoft project - I wouldn't recommend it. There are so many other online tools that are better. It makes scheduling and organizing so much easier and allows all the members of the group to see where the project is at, keep on top of deadlines and deliverables, etc. I use http://www.PureProjectTools.com and it's hands down the best tool I have used so far.
