Hi Padraik,

For time tracking you can go for any web based project management software like basecamp, zoho, asana as they have feature to satisfy your need. I too have similar need and I have been using proofhub to suffice my need.

Why not just settle to using a software for time management? That way your employer could still monitor your work hours and computer tasks but not in an intrusive way. I believe you are a good dev though. So, just prove it to him that you are worth the trust. Eventually, he would let those 8 hours go by without 'closely' monitoring you.
Time tracking is essential to business, especially when employers want to manage their employees effectively where ever they are. However, tools should not invade employees privacy.

I do not find any article which solve your problem.I think you will talk with your boss. Explain whole process of time tracking manually and also explain why you want to display 6 hours instead of 8 hours.
I am using one time tracking software Quickscrum , I think this software is helpful to you.

You can try time tracking software - Proofhub for better visibility on how time is being spent. With this you can get an instant breakdown of how much time is spent by you and your team on each project and task. This makes it easier to ensure that everyone is working efficiently and quality projects are being delivered on time.
