| A baseline change should typically follow a Change Management process, where the changes to the baseline are submitted as requests and approved by the board, based on measurable and justifiable circumstances. On top of this, the board should be pro-actively updated on a regular basis on the progress, without anticipating their request for an update. In this way, you will at all times ensure the needed transparency and would avoid similar situations. The risk of having such is the unpredictable reaction from the board, who may or may not agree with the course of direction as well as may or may not appreciate the lack of intermediate update.
