Default SF relationship versus FS + ALAP

What is the criteria for deciding whether to use a Start to Finish relationship versus a Finish to Start relationship with As Late As Possible scheduling on the predecessor task?

I did a quick experiment and I would reccomend using the Zero Free Float constraint on the predecessor versus the SF relationship on the successor due to the fact that the Total Float shown on the SF activity is not a true picture of what can really happen. See attached screenshot.

If for some reason the activity that had the SF relationship applied to it was not related to it's predecessor then maybe this would be used as the TF is not important. But then, if it's not related why would you tie them together? I still have not seen a valid use of a SF relationship.
