I, for one, believe that a project manager has the necessary skills in him or her already before they even became PMs. They just don't know it yet. Look at my posts on

It depends upon the kind of project you are handling. But in general a PM should:

1. Be knowledgeable about the framework he is using (like SCRUM for instance)
2. Be eager to learn and correct his course as and when circumstances unfold.
3. Be patient (it is the most highly valued virtue)
4. be detail oriented. Ask why, how, when and where before taking a decision Remember to give more information than what is asked. You can't go wrong with this approach.
5. Be aware of right time management approaches

Hi Jashandeep,
Since you are posting here, I assume you are asking how to be a good [Project] Manager.
1 - Listen - To stakeholders, your team, your customer. Listen to understand.
2 - Communicate well - Verbal - Presentations, one on one, phone calls. Non Verbal - Emails, status reports, charter, etc.

But my ultimate recommendation would be to focus on not just being good, but be GREAT! Focus on being a project leader.

You will find a few articles on becoming a great project manager from here:

Hope this helps!

As a leader, you must be cognizant of the past, intensely focused on the present, and constantly scanning the horizon for what the future will bring. Your starting point is here and now, the results that you realize today. Be a distinguished leader by reading "The Twelve Absolutes of Leadership."
