When do you start accumulating experience hours?

Greetings all,

I'm fortunate enough to find PMHub and its forum via Google search engine. I started skimming through the existing threads and the FAQ pages.

I am in my last year in college and will soon earn the BS degree. During my junior year of college, I been working on small sized projects for non-profit organizations and I appreciate if you can tell me if these hours can be counted towards the PMI experience hours.

What I am concerned is, does the experience hours start accumulating anytime or does it start after earning the BS degree?
