New PMP Exam / Requirements

PMI officially announces that it will deploy the updated PMP credential examination (referred to as the “2005 Examination” for purposes of this communication) globally at 14.00 GMT on 30 September 2005. Five days prior, a “black-out” period (beginning on 25 September 2005) will commence during which the PMP credential examination will be unavailable.

The updated PMP credential examination will be released globally at 14.00 GMT on Friday, 30 September 2005. Corresponding to the release of this new exam are several modifications to the PMP exam format, testing policy and overall application process. ...

• Diagnostic score reports are now being given to all candidates to show their overall pass or fail status. Additionally, candidates are provided with an overall percentage of questions answered correctly for each Domain and Knowledge Area. To pass the PMP examination, candidates must answer a minimum of 141 of the 175 scored questions correctly. It is possible to fail one or more of the Domains, yet still pass the exam (the chart above demonstrates the total percentage of what each domain is worth on the new examination).

Apparently, the new exam is so much harder than the old one that they had to reduce the passing score from 81% to 61%. PMI has released a FAQ explaining the change (once again, the original page I referenced no longer exists, though copies of it can be found using Google. Here's the basic info in a new link):
